Patients who have just had surgery are being carried down the stairs. It is extremely painful and risky for them Attendant, GMC Baramulla
Baramulla, July 8, 2025 – The patient lift at Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla has been out of order since yesterday evening, causing immense difficulties for patients, especially those who have undergone surgery and Labour room patients pregnant ladies. Despite repeated complaints, the lift remains non-operational, forcing patients and their attendants to use the stairs an ordeal that has left many suffering.
Many people have expressed their anger and disappointment at the hospital administration, particularly the Medical Superintendent. "This is not the first time the lift has broken down, but this time it has taken too long to repair. The administration seems indifferent to the suffering of patients, said a hospital visitor
Despite a notice on the lift stating it is under maintenance, there is no clear timeline for when it will be operational again. Patients and their families are demanding urgent action
The situation has raised serious concerns about the management and upkeep of essential facilities at GMC Baramulla. "If the administration cannot ensure basic amenities like a working lift, how can we trust them with our health? questioned a local resident.
